People who trade-in a mobile phone in the early part of 2011 may be in pole position to get their hands on a new PlayStation phone.

Asavin Wattanajantra, writing for CNET UK, explains Sony Ericsson – the manufacturer of the rumoured release – has dropped the “strongest hint yet” that it will launch the device.

Indeed, he suggests the world may now set eyes on the handset for the first time at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.

Mr Wattanahantra notes Sony Ericsson chief executive Bert Nordberg has admitted he is aware of the rumours surrounding the mobile phone and refused to deny them.

The author describes this as “fanning the flames”, with many people desperate for the famous console to be brought to life in the form of a handheld device.

Tim Truman, penning a piece for T3 recently, said another of Sony Ericsson’s top models – the Cedar – is a great choice for those who care for the environment.
