Those who have decided to opt for mobile recycling as a way of disposing of their current phone could look to Microsoft and Samsung for a replacement.

That is because the technology firms have confirmed they are to team up to extend their range of smartphones for consumers.

A deal has been signed that will allow each of the companies to benefit from the technology developed by the other, which should result in an increase in promotion for both.

“Microsoft and Samsung see the opportunity for dramatic growth in Windows Phone and we’re investing to make that a reality,” said Andy Lees, president of Windows Phone Division at Microsoft.

Dr Won-Pyo, executive vice-president of global product strategy at Samsung, said the cross-licensing of patent portfolios will help both firms bring the most innovative models to the market.

Samsung recently revealed impressive sales figures for its Galaxy S II device, which has racked up ten million purchases since it was launched in April.
