New research from comScore reveals an increasing number of people are making use of their mobile phone in order to access travel information.

Almost one in five smartphone users in the US alone made bookings through their handset in the three months ending February 2012.

Furthermore, 51 per cent of respondents claimed to have accessed travel content for browsing purposes.

People appear to be taking advantage of the increasing functionality of technology, as Dr Joseph Kim, president of Medical Communications Media and founder of, recently claimed people are using them to effectively enhance their medical treatment.

“The on-the-go convenience of smartphones has facilitated their emergence as an essential companion for travellers,” comScore senior vice-president of mobile Mark Donovan commented.

“Smartphones have really stepped in to meet a variety of needs for travellers, such as coordination of schedules,” he continued, adding there has never been a better time for suppliers to take advantage of the trend.
