Smartphone batteries that can charge in five minutes

Consumers could be able to buy smartphones capable of fully charging in just five minutes within the next year.

This year’s CES technology show in Las Vegas saw a fascinating demonstration of a new product by StoreDot – the FlashBattery.

The gadget’s design makes use of nanomaterials that make the charging process much faster than what you’d see with a typical battery.

As a result, smartphones equipped with a FlashBattery could be fully charged in just five minutes.

No details on which manufacturers have signed up to take advantage of this new innovation have yet been revealed.

However, chief executive Doron Myersdorf has confirmed that the FlashBattery will start rolling off the production lines early next year.

This means people could be making use of the gadget some time in 2018, so we eagerly await news on exactly what handsets we’ll be able to charge up in a matter of minutes.

Speaking to BBC News, Mr Myersdorf noted that some previous versions of the FlashBattery had been thicker than most other smartphone batteries.

However, he said this new version is ready for the market and that it is already in pilot production.

It’s an exciting and potentially game-changing development from smartphone manufacturers that don’t want to use the FlashBattery, as we can be sure there will be a response elsewhere in the industry.

Rest assured, we will keep you up to date with all the developments in this area and let you know the details as soon as we have them.ADNFCR-2155-ID-801835957-ADNFCR
