Mobile users who are waiting for Apple to release the iPhone 5 may be delighted to hear that, in the opinion of one expert at least, it looks like it will include an AM, FM and Satellite radio.

Luke Johnson, writing a piece for T3, says the technology firm has filed a patent for the incorporation of the sound system on its next model.

He details the FM receiver would be attached to the top right-hand corner of the handset, with the proposal being accepted by the US Patent and Trademark Office last week.

"The Apple patent highlights the company's plans to introduce a unique radio station mapping system that would allow users to locate available stations and make their selections via the closest or strongest signal," Mr Johnson explains.

Users will currently find the most up-to-date version of the range is the iPhone 4, which was released in the UK, US, Germany, Japan and France in June.
