It may be a wise move by consumers to prioritise a phone with a sparking hi-tech display when trading in mobiles and upgrading.

Dan Grabham, deputy editor at, explained that technology has advanced significantly in recent years and screens are now at "the next level".

He cited devices such as the iPhone 4 and 4S and the Galaxy Nexus as among those to have set the latest benchmark.

Samsung is said to be one of the manufacturers that is using the newest organic light-emitting diode, which is leading to "brighter and crisper" displays.

"I'd expect this technology, which is a step on from standard LCD displays, to roll out to all phones over the next couple of years," Mr Grabham stated.

The network Three this week confirmed it is adding the Galaxy Nexus to the portfolio of mobile phones it offers to customers, naming its use of the Android 4.0 – or Ice Cream Sandwich – operating system as a major plus point.
