Alleged photographs of a prototype LG Optimus Nexus 4, also known as the Optimus G Nexus, have been leaked online.

One of the most striking design features is the glittery casing on the back. Otherwise, it looks similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, perhaps due to Google guidelines.

The pictures seem to show the device running Google Android's Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system, despite rumours that it would come boxed with a slight upgrade to version 4.2.

Its 4.7-inch screen size is between the two current market leaders' – the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 4.8-inch display, whereas the Apple iPhone 5, despite an enlargement from previous versions, has a relatively small four-inch screen.

Despite competitors having the tendency to release handsets in versions with 16, 32 and 64 GB of internal storage, it seems LG's Nexus will only come with 8 or 16 GB.

However, there does seem to be a microSD card slot, which will allow customers to store up to 64 GB more of applications, music, videos and photograph files.
