A new LG handset described as "a specialised social networking smartphone" could encourage consumers to trade in their mobile phone.

"The LG GT540 creates a fun and familiar social networking environment with LG’s new social networking tool", the company suggests.

Consumers may enjoy the benefits of fast, on-the-go access to popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Bebo.

A global launch will be given to the LG GT540 in April 2010 and news of a UK release is expected to be provided in the near future.

Recombu states "It comes in a range of hues and shades including white, grey, pink and black and boasts chrome-effect edges, curved ends and textured battery covers."

The website added that the phone was like a smartphone version of the LG Viewty running on the Android 2.0 operating system.

Consumers may also be tempted by the handset as it features Google accessories including maps, Gmail, YouTube and search.
