The LG KM900 Arena has been honoured by iF Design Communication at its annual awards, it has emerged.

Since the launch of the device earlier this year, the handset’s 3D S-Class user interface (UI) has been converted for use on a number of other models – and has now been given a Gold Award.

The system was selected from 1,368 entries to be named as winner of the Product Interfaces category at the iF Design Communication honours – an event that one LG spokesman has called “prestigious”.

Dr Skott Ahn, president and chief executive officer of the firm’s mobile communications division, welcomed the title and said it was proof the manufacturer could combine “design expertise and innovation”

“[We] will continue to lead with products that enhance the user experience,” he added.

The 3D S-Class UI also features on the LG Viewty Smart GC900, GM730 and GD900 Crystal – which also boasts a transparent keypad and was unveiled at an industry event earlier this year.
