An increasing number of people may desire a mobile phone that allows them to use Facebook, after the amount of people using the social networking site passed 500 million across the world.

Mark Zuckerberg, writing the Facebook Blog, says to celebrate the landmark the website is putting together a feature of stories from users.

"This is an important milestone for all of you who have helped spread Facebook… Now a lot more people have the opportunity to stay connected with the people they care about," he explains.

With so many people to message, talk to and share photos with, there may not be time to get the most out of the online portal from computers alone.

Instead, trading-in an old mobile in favour of a new smartphone – such as an iPhone or HTC Wildfire – may be the best way to use Facebook on the go.

ShortList magazine recently said users of the Wildfire model could become the "king of the social networking jungle" with the device.
