Unsurprisingly, just hours after Apple officially announced that September 10th would be the date when it would release its next mobile phone, rumours have sparked about what the iPhone 5S will contain.

We've been hearing murmurings for a long time now that the next iPhone will carry some sort of fingerprint scanner, but more details have emerged about how Apple plans to introduce this technology.

According to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the fingerprint sensor will be hidden underneath a sapphire glass-covered, protruding home button.

If the rumours are true it would be the first significant change in the design of the button since the phone was introduced.

The convex design will give Apple more room to fit in the fingerprint technology, according to the analyst. Sapphire has been chosen to cover the button as it is tough and resistant to scratches.
