Apple are being drawn into further legal proceedings as a Chinese company is to ask customs officials to block shipments of the iPad in and out of the country.

If the request succeeds it could have a large affect on global sales as China is a key manufacturing base for the company and it follows a long-running dispute between Apple and electronics firm Proview over the name of iPad.

Last year Proview managed to win an initial judgement in a mainland Chinese court, which was appealed against and now the firm is contacting officials in the country to stop sales of it.

"We are now working on a request to China Customs to ban and seize all the import and export of the iPad products that have violated the trademark," lawyer for Proview Xie Xianghui was reported as saying.

Apple recently demanded the ban of Samsung's Galaxy Nexus in the US.
