People who recycle mobiles in order to invest in an Apple iPhone could make up a significant number of the revolutionary device’s sales figures.

According to a report by DigiTimes, sources now believe the total amount of iPhones shipped in 2011 will hit 95 million.

This is a result of Apple readjusting its predictions for the second half of 2011, which it originally thought would result in 50 million units sold but now believes some 56 million mobiles will be snapped up.

Of the number, it is thought that between 25.5 and 26 million will be iPhone 5 handsets, with the eagerly-anticipated model due out later this year.

As well as the brand new device, sales of existing models such as the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 CDMA will contribute to the figures, the news source noted.

Will Findlater, editor of Stuff magazine, recently praised the Apple range and suggested the iPhone 5 will be the most hi-tech gadget on the planet.
