The latest touchscreen mobile from HTC has been described as the best available to be powered by Windows Mobile.

According to his review for the Times this week, Mark Frary believes a genuine contender for the crown held by the Apple iPhone 3G has emerged in the HTC Touch HD.

His comments, which could inspire some to recycle old mobilephones in favour of an upgrade, include praise for the size of the touchscreen display, as well as its “impressive resolution”.

Mr Frary adds the integrated Touchflo 3D user interface has let down other handsets such as the XDA Ignito and Serra in the past, but adds it is a success here “because of its considerably larger screen”.

The review concludes by calling the HTC Touch HD “the best Windows-powered touchscreen phone on the market and a real rival to the iPhone.”

Orange has the exclusive rights to the phone in the UK and has a five-megapixel camera and has an average talktime of 6.3 hours.
