A new study has looked at how the latest phones like the T Mobile G1 or Apple iPhone 3G now play a central role in people’s day-to-day lives.

The survey, conducted by experts at mobile device management specialists Mformation, found that 94 per cent of handset users keep the names and numbers of their friends stored in their device’s address book.

In addition, 65 per cent of people also save addresses and other contact details on their phones, with 83 per cent saving photos and 51 per cent storing videos in this way.

The study also found 48 per cent of respondents admitted they would rely on their handset to keep track of important dates and appointments – data that should always be fully deleted when recycling mobile phones.

“With ever-increasing phone and network capabilities, this trend of using the phone to store valuable and sensitive data from every aspect of life is set to continue,” Mformation suggested.
