Bankers and other financial workers will find they require a smartphone if they are to enjoy a version of Google Finance on the go, perhaps inspiring some to trade-in their old mobiles.

Ben Shih, a product manager at Google writing the search engine's Mobile Blog, reveals an adaptation of the popular website has been created for handheld devices.

It will allow users to keep up to date with all the latest developments in the financial markets when they are away from their workstation.

"Now no matter where you are, you can keep up with your portfolio, the latest market news and the sectors you care about, with real-time quotes and data – all at a glance," explains Mr Shih.

Its arrival could tempt many financial experts to trade-in a mobile and use the cash to splash out on an iPhone or similar technology.

One model that may be worth considering is Nokia's N8, due for release later this year.
