Those who love to play gaming sites and apps may have more to gain than most when it comes to recycling a mobile phone and upgrading to a newer model.

According to ABI Research, mobile gaming is a rapidly growing industry that will grow from a reported value of $5 billion (£3.1 billion) this year to $16 billion in 2016.

It is suggested by the organisation that the advances in technology – such as the widespread use of touchscreens – is behind the boom in demand for games via handsets.

Aapo Markkanen, senior analyst at the body, said: "Rovio's Angry Birds is an early example of the sort of following that the most successful titles will be able to achieve."

One way to ensure access to the latest games is to invest in the newest mobile phone.

Earlier this month, Kotaku Japan reported that an official Pokemon gaming app is currently being developed for the iPhone.
