It's old news that BlackBerry is struggling financially, especially off the back of its latest mobile phones that have failed to be as successful as the company had hoped.
However, rumours have speculated that Facebook is the latest company that could be interested in a potential buyout of the Canadian manufacturer.
According to sources that spoke with the Wall Street Journal, people "familiar with the matter" have told them that the social network has met with executives from BlackBerry last week.
If the sources are to be believed, bosses at the Canadian company went to California to see how interested Facebook would be in a potential buyout. There is no more information about the matter so it remains unclear what the social network's intentions are and how serious it is about investing in the dwindling smartphone firm.
Although it is clearly just a rumour at this point, if a buyout went ahead it could mean that Facebook could reignite its idea of a social media focused handset after the very limited appeal of its Facebook Home device.
