Facebook has announced an expanded notifications tab in its dedicated smartphone app, which incorporates more scope for personalisation.
Hundreds of thousands of smartphone users log onto Facebook with their mobile every single day.
Regardless of whether this is for keeping up to date with friends, family and loved ones or posting cute cat videos, the social network says that it has been getting consistent feedback asking for a higher level of information customisation.
This information will now be easily seen and all in one place, with users able to tailor what information is displayed.
Milestones such as friends' birthdays and events could be included in this new-look notification tab, or more general information such as sports scores and TV reminders, based on information drawn from pages the user likes.
Additional optional information can be displayed depending on whether or not the user has permitted the Facebook app to access their location history.
These include events happening in the community nearby, weather updates, films playing in local cinemas or a list of places to eat and drink.
Current notification settings will not be changed by the update – only the way in which the information is displayed.
