Social networking site Facebook now allows UK users to make free calls on its messenger feature from their Apple mobile phones.

Facebook users have been able to make free phone calls from their iPhones in other countries for a while, but now it has arrived for British users.

People who want to use the function simply have to click on the 'I' button and the option will pop up asking them if they want to make a free call to their friend.

The drawbacks are that it only works with one conversation so conference calling isn't an option and it requires both users to have a steady 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi connection.

It also allows users to leave voicemail messages for their friends if they are busy or just don't feel like talking. Another benefit is that it has been in America and Canada since early this year, so Apple users can make transatlantic phone calls for free.
