Trading in a mobile phone in order to switch to a device that offers connection to the internet and email services may be an option that has crossed the mind of many.

It could increasingly become an option for Gmail users, after the service was said to have enjoyed a significant surge in popularity.

QueryClick has revealed that the latest figures show the email portal is set to overtake Microsoft Outlook in terms of users.

Christopher Liversidge, managing director of the organisation, predicted the use of email services will grow rapidly over the coming years.

"With so much riding on email, both Microsoft and Google are bound to be making more and more updates to their existing systems, which can only be a good thing," he said.

This could make it essential to have a mobile phone that is capable of supporting the technology.

Web fans may be interested in a deal announced by Three this week, as it is offering unlimited data downloads for £3 a month.
