Those who recently recycled their mobile phone and bought an LG KP500 Cookie may have helped the manufacturer to increase sales.

According to a report detailing activities and results of the second quarter of 2009, LG saw its shipments of handsets increase by 7.8 per cent year on year.

It cited sales of mid-tier devices as factors in this improved figure and noted the successes of the touch screen Cookie phone, the LG KS360 and the Arena, which it described as "feature-rich" and "a multimedia powerhouse".

However, further growth is expected due to the launch of higher-end models such as the unique GD900 Crystal, GM730 and the next in the LG Black Label range.

The Crystal has a transparent keypad and is claimed to be the first of its type in the world.

It is protected by tempered glass and is an example of "innovative design", the manufacturer said. Features include high resolution and vivid colours.
