Over the coming years, users who trade in mobiles will increasingly opt for a 3D phone as its replacement, if one organisation is to be believed.
In-Stat has revealed new figures that show the number of 3D devices sold around the world will hit 148 million in 2015.
The body admitted that take-up of the technology is still in the early stages and that improvements will have to be made for it to become a must-have among all consumers.
“As with any new technology, adoption will increase as the ecosystem matures, costs come down and the ability to capture 3D is combined with innovative mobile applications,” explained Jim McGregor, chief technology strategist at In-Stat.
He went on to suggest that this is likely to take place between 2013 and 2015, perhaps causing a surge of mobile trade ins during this period.
Orange recently announced it is to stock the LG Optimus 3D – the first mobile in the world to offer 3D technology without the need to wear special glasses.
