A new application for Android smartphones allowing people to blog from their handsets could inspire gadget fiends to trade in mobiles.

Produced by hosting platform Blogger, there are a number of highlights to the app, such as being able to switch easily between multiple accounts and taking photos directly from the program to include in blog posts.

Locations can also be shared and incorporated in articles, while all drafts and published writings can be viewed as well.

Available for free from the Android Market, the app allows people to "easily compose a post, attach a photo that you just took with your phone and either save it as a local draft for later or immediately publish it".

It's not yet available on other smartphone platforms, but the company is currently working on changing this.

Similarly, an updated version of Google Latitude – which allows users to alert friends of their whereabouts on an interactive map – could tempt people to recycle used mobile phones.
