People who sell used phones in order to upgrade to a newer and superior device may find they are becoming more tempted by BlackBerry models.

Heather McLean, co-founder and editor of online mobile news publication Smart Gorillas, said Research in Motion (RIM) – which manufactures BlackBerry phones – has taken a "strong step in the right direction" with its latest releases.

The expert warned that this is no guarantee of success, as the company has spent some time failing to live up to the standards set by its rivals.

She stated: "The firm has already lost significant market share and revenue to its competitors, who are faster to innovate and frankly, have better ideas. RIM needs a big injection of cool."

Should it continue in the right direction, it may become a good option for those looking for a new mobile phone.

Orange recently announced it has been chosen by to provide mobiles for its business staff and the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is one of the models that is part of the deal.
