The latest figures have suggested that troubled mobile phone provider BlackBerry is the most popular smartphone choice in the UK with 27.7 per cent of the market share. This equates to 8.5 million UK subscribers.
Worldwide the number of subscribers grew by 35 per cent year on year to 75 million up to December 2011, which the company claimed was driven by growth among young people and in the developing world.
BlackBerry managing director for the UK and Ireland Stephen Bates told the Daily Telegraph despite the company's recent well documented troubles it was in good shape to provide further innovative products in the coming months.
“We’ve moved the market up by around 40 per cent by offering a proposition people can see the value in,” he said.
Manufacturers of BlackBerry Research In Motion has seen weeks of instability, which culminated in its joint chief executive officers Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie resigning from their posts last week.
