The BlackBerry Curve 8900 is the latest smartphone to be added to the Orange pay-as-you-go (PAYG) range.

It has emerged that the network will provide the gadget in a prepaid package with a price tag of £249 – which could inspire some to raise cash by recycling mobile phones.

As part of the offering, buyers will be given six months-worth of free web browsing and email access from the device.

Orange claim the success of the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 has been built upon with the addition of the Curve 8900 to its PAYG options.

Pippa Dunn, director of the firm’s prepaid division in the UK, said: “We’re delighted to extend our range to include the BlackBerry Curve 8900 – the first BlackBerry with a full qwerty keyboard on pay-as-you-go.”

Other BlackBerry mobile phones available now include the Storm – which is the manufacturer’s first foray into touchscreen-enabled handsets and is exclusive to Vodafone in the UK.
