BlackBerry may be struggling with its mobile phone range, but the intrepid manufacturer isn't giving up on its software just yet. In fact, the company is about to release a new update for its BBM messaging service for iPhone and Android users.

The new download will allow people on other platforms to send and receive group photo messages, according to the Canadian phone maker. The change will see BlackBerry more able to compete with other messaging services like Google Hangouts and Apple's iMessage, which already allow sharing photos to multiple people.

In a recent blog post, BlackBerry announced that it will aim to add new features to keep its customers happy, with photo messaging within group chats being a priority on its next agenda.

Jeff Gadway, the firm's head of product and brand marketing, wrote on the BlackBerry Blog, said:
"We know customers want to be able to share pics with multiple people in a chat. The next release of BBM will support photo sharing in multi person chats."
