The BBC has unveiled a new iPlayer Radio application which is now available on mobile phones powered by Apple iOS operating systems.

Owners of devices like the iPhone 5 can therefore visit the App Store and download the tool today.

The BBC says that those with Android handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be able to get the app from Google Play soon.

There is already an iPlayer application available for the two software platforms, with users being able to stream selected BBC television shows or in some cases download them to their smartphone.

The new application will allow users to navigate easily through the BBC radio stations and listen live.

Users will also be able to set an alarm so that they can wake up to their favourite breakfast show.

BBC Future Media's Andrew Scott said on the BBC Internet Blog: "We've worked hard on the user experience, and believe that we've built an application which people will find fun and easy to use."
