Asus has announced that the Padfone 2 will be launched at an event on October 16th.

The Padfone is a smartphone which can be converted into a tablet. This is achieved by plugging the handset into a specially designed station.

The addition of a keyboard dock means that the device can then be used like a netbook computer.

Official details of the second generation mobile phone have not been released but consumers expect the handset to convert in a similar way.

A supposed leaked benchmark shows that the new device will have higher specs. The original's dual-core 1.5GHz processor may see an upgrade to quad-core 1,512MHz.

The RAM may also be doubled from 1GB to 2GB to make the device snappier.

The pre-production document names Android Ice Cream Sandwich as the operating system, but this may be promoted to Google's latest Jelly Bean platform by the time of the 2013 release.
