The prospect of people selling mobile phones in order to snap up a Samsung handset could be more common than ever, if the latest figures are anything to go by.

According to Reuters, Samsung has announced that it sold 300 million devices over the last year.

It is the first time in its history that it has hit the landmark figure and it revealed that the record was actually broken as early as late-November.

"We look forward to extending this success going into 2012," stated JK Shin, president and head of Samsung's mobile communications business.

The iconic Galaxy S series is said to be one of the main drivers of the positive results, with the Galaxy S II – released in April – generating more than ten million sales.

A recent report by Anandtech suggested the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which is now available in the UK, is already the fastest mobile on the market.
