Apple has announced that users of more than 315 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices around the world have downloaded more than 25 billion apps from its App Store.

The 25 billionth app was downloaded by Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China, yesterday (March 5th) and as a result he will receive a $10,000 (£6,300) iTunes Gift Card.

Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services Eddy Cue said the firm would like to thank the customers and developers for helping in achieving this historic milestone.

"When we launched the App Store less than four years ago, we never imagined that mobile apps would become the phenomenon they have, or developers would create such an incredible selection for iOS users," he continued.

Apple's iPad, which has contributed to over three billion of the downloads from the App Store, is the market leader in terms of applications downloaded to a tablet device.
