Apple could use sapphire in its next line of mobile phones, according to the latest rumours.
It is thought that the Cupertino company has teamed up with GT Advanced Technologies and that the pair have signed a multi-year supply agreement to provide sapphire materials for their future devices, including the iPhone 6.
This isn't the first time that Apple has featured Sapphire in its products as the recently-released iPhone 5S has a cut sapphire crystal cover on the fingerprint scanner and the iPhone 5 featured a sapphire crystal lens.
However, the latest buzz is that the American manufacturer could use the gemstone as a key component in its future touchscreens. The resilient material is rumoured to feature heavily in the iPhone 6, which is expected to launch next year.
It could mean that the next iPhone could bring a scratch-resistant and far more durable touch screen than what the current models have.
