Mobile phone giant Apple may delay the release of the upcoming iOS7 operating system because the design team want to fine tune it.

It is thought the company will put back the release to give designer Sir Jonathan Ive and his team time to redesign the upcoming mobile software.

Steve Jobs told his biographer that Ive was his "spiritual partner" at Apple and that nobody told Ive what to do.

Apple has faced criticism about the need for a design overhaul, which was reflected in the drop in profits reported by the company last month.

Sources say that members from the Mac team have been recruited to work on the new mobile phone operating system so that it can be ready for a WWDC preview in September.

People linked to the matter say although the new iOS 7 is scheduled to be released alongside the latest iPhone model internal deadlines are later than with previous models, according to Bloomberg.

This will also be the first iPhone and iOS to be released that Steve Jobs hasn't had a hand in so will be interesting to see what the firm has in store.
