Apple's new iPhone 5S mobile phone has been described as the "fastest" device ever tested by consumer magazine Which?

Researchers at the company put the device through its paces alongside flagship models from Samsung, HTC and LG to discover which provided the quickest processing speeds.

The iPhone 5S topped the list, ahead of the LG G2, which took second spot, third placed Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One Mini rounding out the table in fourth position.

Which? revealed that the iPhone 5 was eclipsed by the Samsung Galaxy S4 in June, but the new devices has reclaimed the top spot.

The increased speed is down to the dual-core 1.3Ghz processor, which is an alternative approach to that taken by other mobile phone makers, which have chosen to opt for a quad-core.

Jon Barrow, Which? technology researcher, said that the benchmark scores are useful to compare devices against one another, but they are not the be all and end all.
