Mobile phone juggernaut Apple has started talks with Yahoo about the two companies collaborating on a iOS, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The report indicates that Yahoo could have a much bigger involvement in iPhones and iPads than customers are currently used to.

One area of talks was reportedly that Apple's products would have expanded sport stats, information from Yahoo news and more of the company's web properties, or integration with Siri.

Although it may be a big ask, Yahoo has apparently considered ways to provide search results, which would eliminate Google from iDevices.

There are still a few obstacles before anything could happen between the companies as Yahoo still has a ten-year deal with Microsoft's Bing service to power its search engine.

Also Google is a giant of a search company to try and compete with and with Apple already losing more of the market to its competitors it's unlikely it would make such a leap of faith with Yahoo.

However financial website Bloomberg did report that the two firms have met to "discuss a deeper relationship" between them.
