Available for iOS and Android, Charity Miles is an app that is looking to make the world a better place through technology.
In short, you can “earn money” for charities through walking, running and cycling. As the developers put it, “it’s as easy as this: get moving”.
So, how does it work? Well, all you need to do is click on the app icon (assuming, of course, you’ve already downloaded it).
Then you choose from a list of charities, followed by one of the three activities outlined above.
As you then carry out your activity, every mile that is achieved, money is generated for the charity you have chosen.
“Charity Miles uses your phone’s GPS and accelerometer to measure your distance,” the team explains on its official website.
“So, please make sure to allow the app to use your phone’s geolocation services. The app will ask for that permission when you first login. If you do not grant the permission, then the app will not work for you.”
Now, we bet you’re curious to know where the money comes from? Sure enough, it doesn’t grow on trees.
The cash is provided by corporate sponsors who “want to help you create a more healthy, purposeful world”.
It’s a great idea for an app and not only is it empowering, it ensures that through everyday activities, everyone can make a positive difference to others who are less fortunate than us.
