Although there is only one device widely available in the UK, one expert suggests more phones are on the way that will use Google Android.

The T Mobile G1 was the first handset to make use of the internet company’s operating system and Shaun Collins notes in the CCS Insight blog that other manufacturers will follow.

He expresses disappointment at the fact that this year’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona was unable to generate some Android developments, but adds the popularity of the software could soon receive a boost.

Mr Collins explains that Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and Motorola are likely to have Google-powered models available "soon" and other company’s could follow.

"I suspect most operators will decide the risk of dealing with a Google-inspired initiative is one worth taking," he concludes.
