Although, Android and iOS still have the dominance in the world of mobile phone operating systems, Windows Phone 8 has taken a greater share of the market for Microsoft.
According to research from IDC, no other operating system for smartphones has grown as much as Windows Phone, which makes Microsoft’s third place in the market much more comfortable.
During Q2 of last year the company managed to shift 4.9 million devices, but during the past three months Microsoft pushed more than 8.7 million phones out of its doors. This is a 77.6 per cent increase, which is more than triple Apple’s growth and tops Android’s progress, of 73.5 per cent, too.
Although this is good news for the Windows giant, it leaves Canadian manufacturer BlackBerry even further behind in fourth place.
