Android has firmly set itself apart as one of the major mobile phone operating systems in the world as people seek an alternative to Apple. This has been highlighted in the firm's year-on-year growth rate of more than 250 per cent.
At last year's Mobile World Congress the firm announced there were more than 150,000 apps in the Android Market.
This has since tripled to more than 450,000 apps today and is fuelled by the fact that there are over one billion app downloads every month from Android users, the firm stated in its blog.
"850,000 new Android devices are activated each day, jetting the number of Android devices around the world past 300 million. These numbers are a testament to the innovation that defines the Android ecosystem," the blog continued to read.
Such is the rise of Android software, it is now the leading mobile phone operating system in the UK – ahead of Apple – according to global consumer insight director of Kantar World Panel ComTech Dominic Sunnebo.
