Owners of Sony mobile phones have been eagerly waiting for news about when they will be able to update their handsets to the latest Android software.

However, new reports suggest this could be just around the corner as they indicate the Sony Xperia Z1 may have been granted the necessary certification.

According to Xperia Blog, the company's latest flagship handset has passed the PTCRB testing needed to issue the download for Android 4.3 to users. This means that Sony fans may only have to wait another couple of weeks before updating to the newest software.

It was back in November when Sony first announced that Android 4.3 would be arriving for a number of the manufacturer's smartphones, including the Xperia Z, Xperia ZR and Xperia Z1.

The company also confirmed these devices would be among the first to gain the Android 4.4 upgrade next year.
