Shoppers who love to pick up goods at online retailer Amazon may have been handed an incentive to recycle their mobile phone and upgrade to an Android device.
That is because the site's Price Check by Amazon app, previously available only to Apple iPhone owners, is now up for grabs to users of the Android operating system.
It acts as a price comparison tool that allows people to use their handset to gauge the value of items in shops compared to those provided on the net.
Consumers are invited to take a picture of a product or scan its barcode and wait for results from Amazon to be revealed.
"Price Check for iPhone quickly became one of our most popular apps following its release last November, which is why we're excited to expand the app to … Amazon customers using Android phones," explained Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile.
The Interactive Media in Retail Group last month found that the proportion of e-sales made via mobile handsets rose in the US to 3.3 per cent by the second quarter of 2011.
