A photograph allegedly showing a white version of the Google Nexus 4 mobile phone has been leaked online.

EXIF data associated with the picture indicates that it was taken with an LG Optimus G smartphone, according to PhoneArena.

LG and Google have struggled to keep up with high demand for the device, which offers high-end specifications alongside a mid-range price tag.

Both 8 GB and 16 GB models continue to be out of stock on Google Play, but release of a new white version could see supply replenished.

The colour variants would then match that of the Apple iPhone 5, which Nokia mocked in an advertising campaign ahead of its Lumia 920 and 820 launch.

The Finnish manufacturer implied that its more colourful options allow the customer to pick a handset that matches their style.

However, there is an ever-expanding range of case accessories on the market which enable gadget lovers to personalise and protect their smartphone.
