Google's 8GB Nexus 4 has sold out in the US and the search engine juggernaut has said that it will not be restocking the mobile phone.

The firm dropped the price of the handset to a very affordable $199 (£159) from $299 (£239) and its bigger 16GB sibling also had its cost slashed to just $249 (£199) from $349 (£279).

Although users who were hoping to get their hands on the cheaper 8GB Nexus 4 will be disappointed, the fact that Google has confirmed to The Verge that it won't be bringing any more of the device in indicates that its successor, the Nexus 5, may not be that far away.

It's possible, with the IFA 2013 event kicking off in Berlin tomorrow, that we could see the Nexus 5 debuted at the event among its rivals.
