The company that announced it would stock the Sony Ericsson Satio this week has unveiled the numbers generated by a recent petition.

According to 3 Mobile, it has now received over 114,000 signatures from people who are against the higher charges associated with mobile termination rates (MTRs).

These fees are generated when consumers make calls across networks and the carrier states the list is populated not only by the general public, but also private sector representatives.

John Petter, managing director at BT Retail and campaign spokesman, said among these are 60 different businesses, groups and councils, as well as 258 MPs.

"This petition is only the first stage in an ongoing campaign to show how MTRs stifle competition and increase the cost of calling mobiles – our goal remains for them to be set according to what they actually cost," he concluded.

According to 3 Mobile, the petition will be presented to Ofcom.
