Samsung has lifted the lid on what its new Galaxy S8 Active device will have to offer.
The handset is being billed as a “durable premium solution for life's every day missteps”.
This is made possible by the use of military-grade materials in its body, making it shatter, dust and water-resistant, along with a metal frame and bumper that protects against shock, abrasion, tilting and twisting.
Furthermore, the back cover has a rugged and tough texture, making a person's grip highly secure.
The handset's screen is equally tough, with the shatter-resistant display providing a protective layer for the 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED Display.
Tim Baxter, president and chief executive of Samsung Electronics in North America, commented: “Our new Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is designed with tested durability and strength to address the needs of consumers who need a more rugged device for their lifestyle.”
But Samsung is keen to stress that the Galaxy S8 Active doesn't just have strength on its side, as it boasts a range of useful and attractive features.
For instance, it includes an intelligent interface called Bixby, which Samsung says offers a “smarter way” for people to use their phone.
In fact, the technology is capable of learning from the user to help them get more done, while it also offers smart reminders, intelligent vision, voice and a personalised home page.
“It’s like having a personal and intelligent voice assistant at your fingertips,” Samsung commented.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active also comes with a variety of handy lifestyle features, such as a flashlight, compass, barometer and stopwatch, which are accessible via the Hello Bixby home screen.
“This makes Bixby a great companion for your outdoor adventures,” said Samsung.
Other great features of the device include a screen that boasts an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.
This provides users with an expansive display that makes the handset easier to hold. As a result, people can watch their favourite programmes and videos with bright and vivid colours.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active also comes with an advanced 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera and 8MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera.
According to the manufacturer, this is capable of delivering bright and sharp photos, even in low-light conditions.
“Samsung's best smartphone camera is now even smarter,” it said.
Users can also be confident that the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active won't give out at a critical moment, as it boasts a long-lasting battery and can be powered up wirelessly.
Finally, the handset is extremely safe, as it is secured from the “chip up” with Samsung's mobile security platform Samsung Knox.
Among the security features are fingerprint and iris scanners, so users can be confident the phone cannot be compromised in the event of it being stolen.
“Samsung Knox has become a trusted and robust security solution with 29 governments trusting it to secure their workforce,” the company said.
Mr Baxter added that the fifth-generation Galaxy Active offers the “best of Galaxy features in a tougher package”.
That sums it up nicely for us, as the handset certainly looks like it offers the perfect balance between strength and intelligence.
