ZTE and Intel team up to use Atom Z2580 chip
ZTE will be using Intel's new Atom Z2580 chip in its future smartphones, it has been announced.
The chip-maker took the wraps off its latest piece of hardware at the recent Mobile World Congress event and the Chinese manufacturer has been quick to agree a deal.
Despite its excellent reputation among PC users, having been the backbone of many machines for the past two decades, Intel has not really broken in to the mobile or smartphone sector.
ZTE is fifth in terms of the top smartphone vendors, shipping 9.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2012.
This equated to a 4.3 per cent market share for the last three months of 2012, however it lags behind industry leader Samsung with a 29 per cent slice of the pie, thanks in the main to its flagship Galaxy S3.
ZTE was only slightly behind Sony in the IDC Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker study, with Huawei and Apple making up the top five.
