YouTube was most popular free Apple iPhone app of 2012
YouTube was the most popular free Apple iPhone app of 2012, while WhatsApp Messenger was the most downloaded paid-for tool throughout the year.
In an update to the new major version of its operating system iOS 6, the American manufacturer removed the previously pre-installed Google apps Youtube and Maps.
The search engine giant imminently released the video-sharing tool through the App Store, and users downloaded the app in their thousands.
Google also recently re-released Maps, and many iPhone owners hurried to download the navigation aid.
WhatsApp is a tool that allows members to send free text, picture, audio and video messages to other users for free, thus limiting their mobile phone bill.
It costs just 69 pence to download, and more than 67,000 customers have given the tool a four-star rating on iTunes.
Unsurprisingly, the hugely successful Angry Birds app took second place, while another physics game, Doodle Jump, was in bronze position.
