YouTube 'boosted by Apple iPhone 3G S'
The latest phones are being increasingly used for uploading video content to YouTube, the sites owners have advised.
According to research from Google, the search engine group which acquired the portal in October 2006, more web-enabled handsets, better services and the launch of multimedia devices like the Apple iPhone 3G S are behind the increases.
It was noted that over the past six months the number of clips sent via mobile phones to YouTube had seen growth of around 1,700 per cent.
Google also explained that since the release of the upgraded Apple handset last Friday, these figures had been boosted by an estimated 400 per cent.
However, it should be noted that similarly-equipped devices like the Nokia N97 and N86 also hit shelves on the same day as the iPhone 3G S.
In other news, a spokesman for ABI Research said this week that Nokia's recently announced partnership with Intel would have "a significant impact" on the future of the smartphone sector.
