Windows Phone To Overtake IPhone In 3 Years

An increasing number of people could be looking to recycle their mobile phones to get their hands on Windows Phone handsets in the coming three years as experts predict the devices will overtake iPhone.

Analysts iSuppli say that Android will remain the top operating system but Windows Phone will rise steadily to overtake iOS, the operating system used in Apple's iPhones and iPads.

Last year Windows Phone accounted for just two per cent of the smartphone market, however, this is due to rise to 16.7 per cent by 2015. Much of this will be due to the emergence of the Nokia Lumia 900 that was launched at this month's Consumer Electronics Show.

"The introduction of the Lumia 900 shows that Nokia believes the road back to smartphone dominance runs through North America," senior principal analyst for consumer communications at HIS Francis Sideco said.

A company that may not be challenging for the top spot in the smartphone market is Sony Ericsson which showed losses of €154 million (£128.2 million) before tax in its fourth quarter of 2011.
